Importance Of Land Surveying

Land surveying is one of the oldest professions. To be precise, it is the world's second oldest occupation. And the subject of land surveying holds its significance even today.

Now herein surveying can be defined as the science of measuring and mapping a particular area which can be land or water. It is a critical part of every design and construction process. Land surveying is the collection of information pertaining to the land.

Lets understand importance of land surveying in this article.

Just look around yourself. The house in which you are living has well defined fences. Other people are not allowed to enter your premises without your permission. Where did these boundaries/fences come from?

The single answer is- from land surveying. Without the service of land surveying, it would have been impossible to build railroads, highways and bridges at the proper place.

Also, land surveying helps in mapping of a large area like a forest. This helps in the safe navigation of it as you know in advance where the road is, where the river is and which path you have to follow in order to reach a particular place in the forest.

So, land surveying is an integral part of everyone's life, whether you know it or not.

Who does the land surveying? The responsibility of collecting all the information related to an area is that of a surveyor. While walking on the road you must have seen some person looking through some instrument mounted on a tripod. Well, that person is a surveyor. Of course, many private and governmental organizations order the surveying of a particular area, as per the essential requirements.

Two commonly used tools for land surveying Global Positioning System (GPS)- It is a tool which is used for accurate positioning of the points on the ground. For its working it uses satellites which send signals to the receiver, which then transmits those to the data collector. Data collector stores all the data which is then resolved by the computer software. This results in the establishment of precise position of the point.

Conventional Total Station Surveying- It is a tool which is used to measure distance along with the angle between two points. This total station sends an infrared beam to a prism (supported by a pole or tripod) which is reflected back by it to the total station. The distance is calculated by recording the time taken for the beam to return. All the information collected is stored in the data collector. The data collector allows to find the coordinates of the points in the field as well.

All in all, land surveying is a very useful to human beings.

Since that time Global Positioning Systems have become increasingly popular for numerous applications.

What You Need to Know About Portable Gold Dredging

By Marc Willis
When the Gold Rush ear was still in affect, portable gold dredges was nothing but a dream. Most of the miners were restricted to only being able to work on the river banks and shallows, as well as areas that could be easily reached with their hand tools used. But after carefully surveying their dredge plans, they quickly discovered that the riverbeds hold the richest parts of the river's, but only being able to use gold pans, rockers, and sluice boxes, they were unfortunately left stranded on the river banks when it came to mining for gold.
